WING'S POTTERY

Welcome to Wing's Pottery

Pottery is a way that I can express my passion for nature into something that other people can view. My aspirations come from wild animals that have beautiful and vibrant colors, as well as popular video games and controversial subjects. Making artwork from clay is a way to capture the beauty and color of the world; giving meaning to things that people tend to overlook.

Current Work

My current artwork is a lady figure with flowers coming out of the top. The black on the figure gradually fades, just like negativity in your life and in your mind. The negativity fades as you find who you are and become stronger. The flowers are the beauty in you that was always there; it was just waiting to sprout. The book pages that the flowers are made from is about a young woman that overcomes hardships mentally and physically, eventually finding herself and love in the process. I created this piece because I went through a rough time full of mental negativity and I want to show people that they are not alone and that they can persevere.

Decisions

To start off my projects I make a sketch of the idea in my head. While making my artwork I am constantly thinking of how I want my artwork to look in the end, but often times I get an idea to add to my piece. One my artwork is done I observe it and think about what I could have done differently to bring it closer to my aspirations.

Why Ceramics?

I love making art with pottery because I enjoy making art with my hands. I can blend and model with my fingers, making my art look how I want. It feels fulfilling to me and brings me closer to my art. That is why glazing and texturing can be a challenge at times because I have to use tools.

Elements of Art

My piece of a beast inside of a basketball is a reference to a saying I have grown up to in basketball. I was always told to "be a beast in basketball", giving me the idea of taking the saying literally. Color was an important element in my piece because the basketball is bright, while the monster is suppose to be dark and dangerous. The textures are also important because the monster has a rough, almost hairy look, making the basketball look relatively smooth.
